The Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter is a transmitter package capable of measuring flow within pipes. It is available in single- and dual-channel models. Dual-channel models enable the Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter to measure flow in two pipes or increase measurement accuracy by averaging two paths on the same pipe.
This ultrasonic flow meter has been optimised for measuring the flow of water, wastewater, sewage, discharge water, treated water, and cooling and heating water, as well as other liquids in full pipes. This makes the Panametrics AquaTrans™AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter particularly useful for municipal applications and can be used to optimise energy efficiency and thereby reduce energy costs by measuring chilled water/ cooling systems.
The Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter can be installed at the process measurement point and may be configured using the internal keypad or via connection to a laptop or PC with BHGE’s instrument software installed, thereby simplifying programming. Furthermore, the Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter will automatically adjust to accommodate changing fluid properties. It is entirely digital and, as such, does not feature any moving parts, minimising its maintenance requirements.
This instrument can be used with clamp-on transducers or wetted transducers, allowing the user to tailor the Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter to the application. Non-invasive, clamp-on (non-wetted) transducers are convenient, flexible, easy-to-install and less expensive to install: they are clamped on to the outside of the pipe and do not come into contact with the fluid. However, clamp-on transducers do not provide the same level of accuracy as wetted transducers. When the Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter is used with clamp-on transducers it has an accuracy of 1-2% of the reading.
Wetted transducers provide an accuracy better than 1% of the reading. However, they are less convenient, cost-effective and flexible than clamp-on transducers as they are mounted into the pipe or flowcell, allowing it to come into direct contact with the liquid.
As the Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter is able to offer a non-intrusive, obstruction-less method of measurement, it eradicates the possibility of pressure drops and contamination. It is suitable for use with a wide range of pipes of various sizes and materials, including lined pipes.
Utilising an onboard microprocessor with correlation TransitTime™ technology optimised for long-term, drift-free operation, the user can measure flow velocity, volumetric and totalised flow. Transit-Time Flow Measurement utilises the following method to determine the necessary readings:
- A pair of transducers sends and receives coded ultrasonic signals through the fluid.
- When the signal transit-time in the downstream direction is shorter than the upstream direction the difference between these times is proportional to the flow velocity.
- Using this time difference and the programmed pipe parameters, the flow meter is able to determine the flow rate and direction.
The Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter has a liquid flow range of 0.1 to 40 ft/s (0.03 to 12.2 m/s) and a turndown ratio of 400:1. It is also equipped with one analogue output and one frequency/ pulse totalizer output as standard.
The Panametrics AquaTrans™ AT868 Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter is an economical, easy-to-use, adaptable and versatile liquid flow meter suitable for measuring a variety of liquids and pipes. It can be used for a multitude of purposes including optimising energy use and reducing energy costs.
