BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester (50kV)

The BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester is a portable cable testing and diagnostics tool with a maximum voltage output of 50kV and negative polarity. It can check paper-insulated, mass-impregnated cables and electrical equipment in medium-voltage networks and is capable of performing tests in accordance with the following standards:

  • On-site testing of paper-insulated, mass-impregnated cables: IEEE 400-2012 and IEC 60060-3
  • Voltage tests on electrical equipment: IEEE 62.2 and IEEE 95
  • Cable sheath testing: IEC 60502/ IEC 60229 and VDE DIN 0276-620/621

The BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester conducts voltage measurements at the high-voltage output. It provides a continuous, adjustable voltage output and has a negative voltage range of 0 to 50kV. It generates voltages using a high-voltage transformer and secondary voltage-multiplier.

The BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester’s internal ammeter has six ranges spanning 1µA to 100mA enabling it to detect extremely small insulation currents which are then used to determine insulation resistance up to the tera-ohm range.

In addition to an integrated ammeter, the BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester includes a built-in timer for setting test periods between 1 minute and 30 minutes. An OPTIONAL external curve tracer can be connected to the BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester to facilitate the recording of measured current in relation to time.

Once the test time has elapsed the BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester will automatically cease to provide the high-voltage output. It will also automatically trigger the integrated discharge unit (a clear switching noise can be heard) which operates independently of the BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester and will continue to function even in the event of a power failure. The discharge resistance is designed for maximum discharge energy of 8000J.

Furthermore, the BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester includes a connection for an emergency off unit, an external door contact and signal lamps. Additionally, its safety unit is designed in accordance with EN 50191; the BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester is also short-circuit-proof and all its connection elements and cables are housed in a robust case.

Finally, the BAUR PGK50E DC High Voltage Tester has been optimised for practicality. Its 20kHz operating frequency ensures it has small dimensions, whilst its carrying handle and carrying strap means this lightweight tester can be easily transported across and between worksites.
