Remember when we talked about the Green Deal a while back? Electricians aren’t convinced it’ll have a benefit on them.

While the proposed Green Deal the government are planning to roll out should have a good effect on our energy usage and emissions, many electricians aren’t convinced that the new scheme will see a rise in work for contractors.

According to figures obtained by Professional-Electrician, only one fifth of those surveyed believed they will get more work as a result of the Green Deal, while the rest remain sceptical that the new focus on renewable energy installations will in fact bring in more work.

Shockingly, 40% of those surveyed also revealed they had absolutely no idea what the Green Deal is. This is despite a pretty large campaign by the government.

Jonathon Cole, who is editor of Professional-Electrician, said: “Electricians who have heard of the programme remain sceptical about its impact on their businesses. Many remember previous programmes, such as PV Feed-in tariffs, Domestic RHI and HIPs being handled badly. It would appear that few also have faith in this scheme.”

The Green Deal is designed to encourage business and home owners to invest in renewable energy sources by employing a new loan-based scheme that ties renewable energy bills into the person’s property. If executed correctly it could be a hugely beneficial scheme for the country as a whole, but for now it seems like there still needs to be a significant amount of convincing done for electricians.
