The IET has put out a new update to their 17th Edition Wiring Regulations book (BS 7671: 2008) that revamps a few sections that deal specifically with medical locations.

The change has been implemented in order to make the section easier to understand for the reader and also as a means to make sure that the Wiring Regulations book is in line with the Medical Locations regulations (HD 60364-7-710) which was published in Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671) published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC). Research found that the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations book wasn't completely in line with these regulations and the changes have been made in order to rectify this problem.

The new update, which is known as a corrigendum, technically aligns the IET Wiring Regulations with Medical Location Regulations.

Ian Reeve, Senior Engineer at the IET said: “When undertaking the technical alignment process, the opportunity was taken to amend and restructure certain requirements, regulations and sentences to make it easier for the reader. The main technical changes have been indicated with a bar to the right of the text.”

This update is available completely free of charge for existing members of the IET as a download from the IET website. The new document will replace section 710 Medical Locations in BS 7672: 2008 (2011) with BS 7671: 2008 (2011).
