The correct installation and maintenance of data and networking cabling and equipment is more important than ever in modern society – as we increase our reliance on technology such as telephones and the internet, failures in broadband cables and telephony equipment can be costly and require lengthy procedures to test and put right.

Broadband and general network cabling (including DSL cable) can be subject to stress and general degradation over a time period. Whether it’s underground or part of an integrated phone line inside a property, maintaining the overall integrity of the cable improves broadband speeds and keeps customers satisfied with regular, steady broadband connection. For many businesses the internet going down means loss of profit, work not being completed and potential leads being lost, and the same can also be sad of sudden downtime of telephone systems.

DSL Testers – often known as copper wire analysers – can be used to evaluate the overall DSL bandwidth strength passing through twisted pair cabling and can also be used to accurately evaluate faults along a network line.  Most copper wire analysers will be able to find physical cable faults such as shorts, crosses, opens, splits, pair imbalances and more, but they can also be used to find other, less physical problems such as excessive noise on the line, signal loss causes and others.

Network testers can also be used to evaluate plain old telephone services (POTS) systems, and allow users to create systems that qualify for caller ID, ANI and dial up modes. They’re also more commonly used in modern society for digital broadband services and installation, including ADSL (DMT and CAP), T1, E1, DDS, ISDN, HDSL and HDSL2.  This enables users to evaluate noise, loss, crosstalk measurements, predicated data rates and location of impairments like load coils or bridge taps.
