DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone Description

The DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone is a rugged, durable quadcopter ideal for a multitude of applications, in an array of sectors. For example:

Rugged Design and Flight Capabilities

The DJI Matrice 210 Professional Quadcopter is agile, fast, resilient and foldable. It has an IP rating of 43 ensuring that it is protected against the ingress of most solid objects and the effects of sprayed water.  Therefore the DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone is suitable for use in outdoor environments. Its self-heating batteries also ensure that the drone remains operational in temperatures as low as -4°F.

The quadcopter’s foldable, compact design with removable batteries, propellers and landing equipment, also ensures that it can be easily transported to indoor and outdoor locations.

The quadcopter's small size improves its stability and this combined with the drone’s unfolding arms (max span of approx. 35-inches) and 17-inch propellers ensure that it is able to resist crosswinds at speeds of up to 22mph.

Adding to the DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone’s resilience and versatility is its ability to remain functional up to 8200 feet above sea level. The DJI Matrice 210 Drone can ascend at 11mph and descend at 7mph. Once airborne it can reach speeds of up to 51.4mph.

The DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone can be flown for up to 20 to 27 minutes at a time depending on the weight/ amount of equipment attached to the aircraft.

Image and Video Capture

Aside from the inclusion of a First Person View (FPV) camera optimised for navigation, the DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone does not include any cameras. However; it does have the capacity to capture images/footage using two adjacent cameras. Alternatively, it can carry an upward facing camera for inspecting infrastructure, as well as a downward facing camera.  

Compatible cameras can be connected to the aircraft in a number of combinations as result of the drone’s ability to accommodate various gimbals. Up to two downward facing gimbals may be connected and one upward-facing gimbal may be attached to the quadcopter.

The DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone can be tailored to the user’s needs through attaching various combinations of compatible cameras. The cameras compatible with the Matrice 210 Quadcopter are:

  • Zenmuse XT: this is a thermal imaging camera, featuring technology developed by FLIR. It includes an image capture of 640/30fps or 336/30fps depending upon the model selected. The user can also choose between four different fixed-lens sizes. (A XT adapter is required to connect this camera to the aircraft).
  • Zenmuse Z30: features a 30x zoom and 6x distortion-free digital zoom allowing for a maximum magnification of x180.
  • Zenmuse X4S: captures 20MP images and 4K footage.  When capturing images in burst mode they are shot at 14fps. It supports H.264 and H.265 allowing it to capture 4K footage at 30fps and 6fps respectively. This camera has a transfer rate of 100fps, 1-inch sensor, the equivalent of a 24mm lens and autofocus, ensuring that all the images and videos captured using the X4S are high-quality.
  • Zenmuse X5S: shoots video in 5.2K or 4K and captures 20.89MP still images. Images are shot at 20fps in burst mode. The user can tailor this camera to his/her needs as it features manual and automatic aperture control, user selectable focal length, interchangeable lenses and two zoom lenses.

Intelligent Flight Modes

The versatility of the DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone is extended even further through the inclusion of four intelligent flight modes. These modes allow the user to capture dynamic images and footage, as well as collect data more efficiently.  The intelligent flight modes available on the Matrice 210 Professional Drone are:

  • Spotlight: ensures the camera maintains visuals on a particular subject while the user conducts the aircraft
  • Point of Interest: the drone will circle around a selected subject
  • Tripod: slows and steadies the DJI drone to capture clear, level images and/or in order to fly safely through narrow airspaces
  • ActiveTrack: can be set to follow a particular subject

Sensors

The above intelligent flight modes are made possible because of the inclusion of two front visual sensors, ultrasonic and visual downward sensors and an upward facing infrared sensor.  These modules also make it possible for the Matrice 210 Drone to hover precisely and avoid obstacles both ahead of it and above it. It is also capable of precise GPS positioning.

Further to the sensors already included on the Matrice 210, it features additional connectivity and power ports to support the connection of other sensors and/or accessories.

This quadcopter is also supplied with an integrated software development kit which is compatible with Windows, Linux, Embedded Systems STM 32 and ROS. This software allows the user to tailor functions such as obstacle avoidance and video streaming to his/her needs. It also facilitates the integration of an onboard computer and/or the connection of third-party sensors.

Furthermore, the DJI Matrice 210 Professional Drone is compatible with the mobile version of the aforementioned software development kit. This kit allows the operator to build an app which works in conjunction with the drone in order to collect the data most relevant to the user.  

Finally, the Matrice 210 includes a number of I/O ports which facilitate the conversion of analogue to digital and ensure pulse-width modulation and digital I/O functionality.

Piloting

The aircraft can be flown and operated using the included remote controller (please see below). It can also be operated using the DJI GO 4 app, which also provides the user with information regarding the remaining battery life.

In addition to this, the DJI Pilot app and DJI FlightHub™(web-based software) can be used together to pre-program flight routes for multiple drones, as well as monitor the status of each quadcopter.

Included Remote Control

This product not only allows the user to control the flight path of the Matrice 210 Professional Drone, it also provides a method by which the user may view the footage captured using the FPV camera or attached cameras. This is facilitated by connecting a smartphone or tablet to the controller.

The included remote controller can be used in conjunction with other controllers of the same type. This facilitates the ability to fly the drone and capture footage collaboratively. The pilot can use the primary controller to operate the aircraft while the camera operator utilises the secondary controller to operate the gimbal and camera.

The included remote controller can issue and receive transmission signals up to a distance of 4.3 miles.

Safety

The DJI Pilot App and DJI FlightHub™ can be used together to communicate with offsite parties via the internet.  For instance, the user can communicate with emergency control centres via live feeds.  Furthermore, if necessary offsite emergency centres can remotely control the camera and gimbal.

DJI Cendence Remote Controller Description

The DJI Cendence Remote Controller can be used to fly the DJI Matrice 210 Quadcopter as well as operate its gimbal and adjust its camera settings. It features five analogue control channels, ten customisable buttons and is optimised for compatibility with a number of other DJI products.

With regards to flying and operating the DJI Matrice 210 Quadcopter, this controller features two knobs on the front panel for controlling gimbal pitch and yaw. The user can also adjust the flight controller settings and the camera in real-time using the right and left levers as well as the ‘focus-adjust knob’. This facilitates pulled focus and aperture settings.

In addition to this, the DJI Cendence Remote Controller includes ten buttons which can be customised to enable control shortcuts. It is possible to program these buttons to control gimbal roll, shutter speed and ISO settings, as well as a number of others; once customised, these buttons can be used with the Cendence Remote’s dials, toggle or left and right levers to make adjustments.

The DJI Cendence Remote Controller also features a number of ports which extend its capabilities. These include:

  • SDI and HDMI ports for broadcasting 1080i50 and 720p60 footage.
  • A CAN port for connecting a variety of other accessories such as the DJI Focus and Tracktenna (NOT included). When used with DJI’s Tracktenna the DJI Cendence Remote Controller is capable of stable and high-bandwidth (frequency bands: 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz) transmissions over vast distances.
  • A USBA port which supports a connection with various mobile devices and facilitates the DJI Cendence Remote Controller’s ability to function as either the primary or secondary remote controller when used with an additional DJI Cendence Remote Controller.

The antenna-interchangeability of this product adds to the effectiveness of DJI’s Lightbridge technology because when a high-gain antenna or DJI’s Tracktenna is connected to the controller both the anti-interference and the video downlink quality are improved.  

Other practical features found on this remote controller include its Cendence Monitor Mounting Bracket for connecting the CrystalSky Monitor (see the description below). It is also possible to connect the user’s smartphone or tablet to the DJI Cendence Remote Controller via an interchangeable mobile device holder.

The DJI Cendence Remote Controller’s antennas, PCB, mounting bracket and battery can all be removed, allowing the user to upgrade these components as necessary.

DJI CrystalSky 7.85” High-Brightness Monitor Description

The DJI CrystalSky 7.85” High-Brightness Monitor can be connected to the above DJI Cendence Remote Controller to view the images and footage captured using the DJI Matrice 210 Drone. It can be connected to the aforementioned remote controller via a micro-USB or micro-USB-C port and with or without a mounting bracket.

Alternatively, the DJI CrystalSky 7.85” High-Brightness Monitor can connect to the Matrice 210 Quadcopter over Wi-Fi. It is also compatible with a number of other DJI drones including the Inspire series, Phantom 4 series, Phantom 3 series and Osmo series and can also connect to these UAVs using its integrated dual-band Wi-Fi.

Using the integrated dual-band Wi-Fi, the DJI CrystalSky 7.85” High-Brightness Monitor can connect to Wi-Fi networks and hotspots. Once connected to the internet, it is able to access system upgrades, perform data synchronisations and facilitate live streaming, as well as share videos and images on social media via the DJI GO 4 App.

The DJI CrystalSky 7.85” High-Brightness Monitor is stripped of unnecessary Android apps and services. However; it does have the DJI GO 4 App installed, allowing the user to access all the features available on this app. He/she can adjust aircraft parameters, operate the camera, manage footage and playback recorded media.

Further to this, the DJI CrystalSky 7.85” High-Brightness Monitor utilises offline maps, ensuring that the operator has access to maps and can navigate the Matrice 210 Aircraft even when unable to connect to Wi-Fi.

DJI TB50 Intelligent Flight Batteries Description

The DJI TB50 Intelligent Flight Batteries include higher density, higher performance cells ensuring that they are able to provide the Matrice 210 with 25 minutes of flight time when using a Zenmuse X4S Gimbal, and 27 minutes of flight time when using a Zenmuse X5S Gimbal.

In addition to their large capacity, the DJI TB50 Intelligent Flight Batteries also feature a 70W self-heating system which ensures the batteries remain operational at temperatures as low as -4°F. The self-heating system works by warming the batteries to 41°F (5°C) every minute.

The batteries’ temperature and power level are monitored by their sophisticated management units; this information is then communicated to the user via the DJI Go app.
