The FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera is an infrared imaging camera suitable for elevated-skin-temperature screening. It can be used to set up a single, standalone screening station or can be integrated into a screening network. Non-contact temperature measurement and thermal imaging means that subjects and screening staff can maintain compliance with social distancing guidelines.

Elevated skin temperature can be an indicator of fever, which is a common symptom of many illnesses. The FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera CANNOT be used to diagnose illnesses; however, it can help to identify people who might be ill and may need to self-isolate or undergo further medical testing. It has been US FDA approved for use alongside other body-temperature measuring equipment (for instance a medical thermometer) for this purpose.

Thermal Imaging

The FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera has an IR resolution 464 x 348px. Thermal imaging allows the user to see, at a glance, the degree and distribution of the subject’s (the person being screened) body heat.

The FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera’s thermal sensitivity and field-of-view vary depending on its lens. The FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera can be purchased with either a 24° lens or 42° lens; please see the table below for further information.

SKU Title Thermal Sensitivity  Field-of-View
90601-0101 FLIR A500-EST with 24° Lens  <40 mK @ 30°C/86°F 24° × 18°
90602-0101 FLIR A500-EST with 42° Lens  <30 mK @ 30°C/86°F 42° × 32°

To protect the subjects’ privacy, thermal images only display heat, they do not show identifying features. Furthermore, when set to Screen-EST mode (see below), the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera will NOT automatically save images or personal information.

Screen-EST Mode

To facilitate efficient, accurate and reliable temperature screening, the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera includes a Screen-EST mode. This mode functions by measuring the subject’s skin temperature and comparing it to the average skin temperature value plus the user-specified tolerance, for example, 36°C + 1°C.

If the subject’s temperature is within the accepted range a clear PASS indicator will be displayed on the connected monitor (NOT included). However, if the subject’s temperature exceeds the upper limit a FAIL indicator is displayed and an audible alarm is triggered (via a web interface). Persons who trigger these alerts MUST have their temperature verified using a body thermometer.

When the Screen-EST mode is activated, the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera will measure temperatures between 15°C and 45°C to an accuracy of ±0.3°C. To enable accurate screening without a reference, the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera supports calibration with ambient drift compensation, as well as external blackbody compensation.

Furthermore, to ensure reliable PASS/ FAIL alerts, the average skin temperature is calculated accumulatively using subjects’ measurements. This compensates for changing ambient conditions that occur naturally throughout the day.

FLIR Screen-EST Desktop Software

The FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera is also compatible with FLIR’s Screen-EST Desktop Software (NOT included). When used with this software, the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera will automatically begin screening upon detection of a human face. Via a connected monitor staff and subjects can view the screening process and see clear PASS/ FAIL indications. The subject’s skin temperature will also be displayed on the monitor.

Please note that individuals that trigger the FAIL indicator MUST have their temperature verified using a body thermometer.

Easy to Install

As mentioned above, the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera can be integrated into existing networks. Compatibility with Modbus TCP, MQTT, RESTful API for data transfer and RTSP for video makes integrating the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera into third-party systems easy. For instance, RESTful API over XML or JSON enables integration into web services, while ONVIF compliance means the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera can be integrated into a majority of video management systems and is able to accommodate NVR solutions.

More practically, the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera’s case features multiple mounting points to support connection to a tripod and/or permanent fixture installation. In addition to this, the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera supports standard Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection as well as Power over Ethernet which enables single-cable installation.

Finally, a limited ramp-up time, simple connections and an integrated web browser with an intuitive interface ensure that the FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera can be set up and can begin screening quickly and easily.

The FLIR A500-EST Fixed Mount Temperature-Screening Thermal Camera is a non-contact temperature screening tool that serves as an effective preliminary measure for preventing the potential spread of infection.
