In order to produce hydraulic pressure, the Fluke P3124-XXX Oil Hydraulic Deadweight Tester utilises mineral oil and a high-quality screw press. The screw press may also be used to make fine pressure adjustments. In addition to this; the inclusion of a hand pump allows the user to prime the system prior to operation and can be used to accommodate large volume requirements. The quality and level of the mineral oil can be monitored via the clear, acrylic reservoir. Once the calibration is completed, the mineral oil is drained quickly and easily via the integrated drain plug.

As hydraulic pressure is created, the piston will rise within the cylinder; to balance this upward force accurately calibrated weight masses are added to the piston. Each of these weight masses is marked with the nominal pressure values relative to high- or low-pressure pistons. In order to determine the final pressure, the relevant values marked on the weight masses placed on the piston are added together. For further information regarding this method, please see the video below.

In addition to nominal pressure values, the weight masses (made from series 3, non-magnetic, austenitic, stainless steel) are also marked with the instrument’s serial number. For easy and safe transportation, weight masses can be stored in a rugged weight case with a self-locking mechanism.

In order to keep the Fluke P3124-XXX Oil Hydraulic Deadweight Tester safe during transit, it is supplied with a removable lid. This instrument’s design makes it suitable for use across a variety of worksites and to this end includes adjustable feet, a mounted spirit level, a test-station design and O-rings. It is supplied with spare seals and 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch NPT or BSP female adaptors and does not require PTFE tape and/or wrenches to connect additional items.

This instrument is also supplied with a traceable certificate of accuracy and is calibrated to standard gravity (980.665cm/s²), giving it a standard accuracy of 0.015%. By adjusting the deadweight tester, for instance by calibrating it to the user's local gravity, this accuracy can be improved to 0.008%.

Adding to the calibrator's precision is the piston and cylinder assembly with floatation indicator, this component has been optimised to reduce distortion and thermal coefficients whilst maintaining the stability and durability of the tester. To this end, it has been manufactured in accordance with the highest standards and as such includes certified accuracies traceable to international standards laboratories, such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

The Fluke P3124-XXX Oil Hydraulic Deadweight Tester – Dual Pump is a versatile, accurate, easy-to-use tester, ideal for efficiently calibrating pressure sensing instruments.
