That this deadweight tester uses water to create hydraulic pressure expands its scope-for-use and versatility. The quality and level of water are easily viewable via the clear, acrylic reservoir, ensuring that it can be monitored throughout the calibration process; post-calibration the water can be drained via the integrated drain plug.

Other practical features which improve the Fluke P3223-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester’s ease-of-use are:

  • A test-station design with O-rings: this instrument is also supplied with 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch NPT or BSP female adaptors. The design of the instrument and the supplied adapters removes the need for PTFE tape and/or wrenches when attaching devices-under-investigation.
  • Adjustable feet and a mounted spirit level: these features ensure that the tester can be set up accurately in a variety of environments.
  • Removable lid: ensures that the Fluke P3223-XXX can be safely and easily transported between worksites.

Further to this, the weight masses provided with this tester are supplied in a robust weight box with a self-locking mechanism, again ensuring that they are kept safe and secure during transit.

Weight masses are constructed from series 3, non-magnetic, austenitic, stainless steel, ensuring that they are not affected by the earth’s magnetic field. They are also marked with the instrument’s serial number and nominal pressure values relative to high- and low-pressure pistons. These weight masses are added to the piston in order to balance the upward force created by the hydraulic pressure. To create this hydraulic pressure the integrated hand pump is used to prime the system (the hand pump can also be used to accommodate large volume requirements) and the high-quality screw press is turned in order to create, and make fine adjustments to, the hydraulic pressure.

To determine the final pressure value, the appropriate nominal pressures, marked on the weight masses added to the piston, are combined. For further details regarding this method, and for a quick overview of these deadweight testers, please see the video below.

Measuring Pressure with a Deadweight Tester

This easy-to-use, efficient and ergonomic tester has also been optimised for accuracy. To this end, it is supplied with a traceable certificate of accuracy and includes piston and cylinder assemblies with accuracies traceable to international standards laboratories, such as NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). The piston and cylinder assemblies with a floatation indicator are manufactured in accordance with the highest standards and have been designed to provide stability and durability as well as low thermal coefficients and distortion.

The Fluke P3223-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester has a standard accuracy of 0.015% and is calibrated to standard gravity (980.665cm/s²). It is possible to improve the precision of this instrument to 0.008% via calibrating the deadweight tester, and trimming the supplied weight masses, to the user’s local gravity. These alterations account for the influence of the localised gravitational pull on the weight masses. PLEASE NOTE that unless specified the Fluke P3223-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester will be calibrated, and the weight masses will be trimmed, in accordance with standard gravity.

The Fluke P3223-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester –Dual Range is a sophisticated, versatile, easy-to-use pressure calibrator suitable for an eclectic range of applications.
