The Fluke P3224-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester –Dual Range can be used to calibrate a wide variety of pressure sensing instruments including transducers, transmitters, gauges and pressure switches. It is available in four models with varying pressure ranges and measurement units. For further details, please see the table below.

Product Code Product Name  Pressure Range
P3224-BAR Fluke P3224-BAR Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester - Dual Range 700 bar 1 to 700 bar
P3224-KGCM2 Fluke P3224-KGCM2 Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester - Dual Range 350 kgf/cm2 1 to 700 kgf/cm2
P3224-PSI Fluke P3224-PSI Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester - Dual Range 5000 psi 10 to 10000 psi
P3224-MPA Fluke P3224-MPA Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester - Dual Range 35 MPa 0.1 to 70 MPa

The Fluke P3224-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester – Dual Range differs from its sister product, the Fluke P3214-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester –Single Range, in that it includes two pistons which facilitate its dual-range capabilities. This instrument also includes an integrated hand pump for priming the system prior to pressure creation (this pump can also be used to accommodate large volume requirements) and a high-quality screw press which may be used to generate hydraulic pressure and make fine adjustments to the pressure created.

Water is used as the medium with which hydraulic pressure is created; the level and quality of the water can be monitored via the clear, acrylic reservoir. Post-calibration it can be drained quickly and easily via the integrated drain plug.

Other practical features present on the Fluke P3224-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester include:

  • A test station design with O-rings: this design, combined with the supplied 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch, 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch NPT or BSP female adaptors, removes the need for PTFE tape and/or wrenches when attaching additional instruments.
  • Adjustable feet and mounted spirit level: improves the ease with which the tester can be accurately set up.
  • Removable lid: facilitates the user’s ability to safely transport the tester between worksites.

Also adding to the convenience of this product is the robust weight box with a self-locking mechanism. Supplied weight masses can be stored in this box, keeping them safe and secure during transit.

Weight masses are constructed from series 3, non-magnetic, austenitic, stainless steel to protect them from the influences of the earth’s magnetic field. They are also marked with the instrument’s serial number and include nominal pressure values relative to high- and low-pressure pistons inscribed on their bodies.

As hydraulic pressure is created the piston is forced upwards in its cylinder and weight masses are added to balance this upward force. Therefore, in order to determine the final pressure, the appropriate values, marked on each of the weight masses placed on the piston, are combined. For further information regarding this method and an overview of these deadweight testers, please see the video below.

Measuring Pressure with a Deadweight Tester

The weight masses supplied with this tester can be trimmed to the user’s local gravity; in addition to this the  Fluke P3224-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester can be also be calibrated to the user’s local gravity. These alterations help to improve the instrument's standard accuracy from 0.015% to 0.008%. PLEASE NOTE that unless specified the instrument will NOT be calibrated to the user’s local gravity; it WILL be calibrated to standard gravity (980.665cm/s²).

As indicated above, accuracy is at the forefront of the Fluke P3224-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester’s design. It is supplied with a traceable certificate of accuracy and its piston and cylinder assemblies with floatation indicator have been constructed in accordance with the highest standards, ensuring that they too have certified accuracies traceable to international standards laboratories such as NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). These assemblies are designed for stability and durability; they also work to lower thermal coefficients and distortion.

The Fluke P3224-XXX Water Hydraulic Deadweight Tester –Dual Range is optimised for versatility, efficiency and simplicity; it is ideal for accurately calibrating an array of pressure sensing instruments.
