Ofil DayCor® Rail Corona Inspection System Details

The Ofil DayCor® Rail Corona Inspection System is an intelligent camera designed to detect corona, arcing and partial discharge. It is optimised for railways. This instrument can be attached to trains (including high-speed services) and then left to detect and record instances of corona. The Ofil DayCor® Rail Corona Inspection System includes DayCor® technology, providing it with visible and UV imaging capabilities. It includes three imaging modes: Visible, UV and Combined. When using the Combined mode UV footage of corona, partial discharge or arcing is overlaid onto a digital image or video in order to create detailed footage which clearly displays instances of these faults and their locations.

This instrument is especially sensitive to UV signals and can detect 1pC of UV from a distance of 10m and 7.7 dBµV (RIV) @ 1MHz, allowing it to detect corona from afar. It is also a fast responding camera ensuring that it is able to function effectively at high speeds (up to 300 km/h). Moreover, the Ofil DayCor® Rail Corona Inspection System’s resilient components are not affected by strong vibrations allowing the system to produce smooth video clips even during bumpy travel. All these features facilitate the imaging system’s ability to capture corona and the sources of corona throughout various forms of train travel.

Once corona has been detected and images or footage have been captured, they are stored on the camera with supplementary information such as the GPS location, the ambient conditions and the corona count, as determined by the Ofil DayCor® Rail Corona Inspection System’s integrated UV counter.

Furthermore, the integrated Ofil CoronaCatch application is able to separate corona events from non-corona events and attach GPS, ambient conditions and severity meta-information to the documented corona occurrences.

As the Ofil DayCor® Rail Corona Inspection System is autonomous it does not require an operator to manually record detected corona. This instrument is only switched on at the beginning of a journey and turned off at the end. It automatically records the above information and, in addition to this, automatically creates reports using the recorded corona count and high-resolution video clips. These reports are compatible with Ofil’s CoronaBase Reporting Software.

The autonomy and single button operation of this product make it easy to use. It can also be customised to improve its simplicity-of-use and suitability for particular tasks (please call for further details). It can be tailored to suit the user’s language preferences, as well as the architecture and platform of the application, ensuring that the user is able to garner the most relevant, accurate and clear results for each task.
