The Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter is a completely configurable unit, available as a one-, two- or three-channel version and with four configurable inputs/outputs for analogue and digital communication (please see the datasheet for further details). It is suitable for use in hazardous (classified) areas, such as petrochemical and chemical-processing environments.

The Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter utilises ultrasonic technology to measure the flow velocity and flow direction of liquids contained in pipes of various sizes and materials. It can be used to test:

The Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter builds upon the success of its predecessor, the Druck XMT868i Liquid Flow Transmitter. Like its predecessor, the Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter can be installed at the process measurement point and does not feature any moving parts, filters or strainers, removing the need for periodic maintenance and calibration. This design also reduces the possibility of drifting and pressure drops. Similarly, this model, like its predecessor, utilises a transit-time flow measurement technique to determine flow velocity and direction.

To perform these measurements, the Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter is used with wetted transducers. These instruments are installed directly inside the pipe or flowcell meaning that they come into contact with the liquid-under-investigation and, therefore, are able to provide a measurement accuracy of 0.3% of the reading. Please note that the Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter can also be used as part of a variety of wetted systems, such as the PanaFlow System.

The transit-time measurement technique functions by using both the wetted transducers as senders and receivers of ultrasonic pulses. Each transducer emits the same number of ultrasonic pulses; the time it takes for these pulses to go from one transducer to the other is measured in both directions. If the fluid is stagnant then the upstream transit time will match that of the downstream transit time; however, if the fluid is moving the upstream transit-time is greater than the downstream transit-time. The difference between these transit times is proportional to the velocity of the liquid and the sign of this value indicates the direction in which the liquid is moving.

Like its sister product, the Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter also includes an ATW™ (Automatic Tracking Window) function designed to maintain the unit’s accuracy despite unknown or changing fluid properties. The ATW™ function alters the time between the transit-signal window and the receive-signal window (Seek mode) to determine a clear receive-signal; this function sweeps through various time intervals based upon information entered by the user which details the expected maximum and minimum sound speeds. When an optimal ultrasonic receive-signal is identified, the Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter will lock onto this signal and will only return to Seek mode when a significant change in sound speed is detected.

The ATW™ function is particularly useful when measuring multiproduct pipes, or when testing fluids with unknown fluid properties/ sound speeds or fluids with properties/ speeds which are affected by changes in environmental conditions.

The Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter’s onboard digital signal processor (DSP) will automatically adjust the transmitter in accordance with changing fluid properties; it also provides proprietary digital signal coding and correlation detection routines, as well as a dynamically configured operating software optimised for simplifying the programming of the transmitter.

The Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter features a magnetic six-button keypad operating interface, allowing the user to safely program the unit and verify diagnostics in hazardous (classified) locations. The user needs only touch the glass with the magnetic wand to change the parameter settings, as such, he/she does not need to open the Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter's casing in order to connect a PC to configure the unit. Similarly, he/she does not require a handheld programmer to operate the unit, nor are hot work permits required. 

However, as this unit is equipped with a MODBUS RS485 interface, it can also be programmed using a PC. Via this interface and GE Druck’s Vitality™ software, the operator can access the unit’s diagnostics and programming. The Vitality™ Software also facilitates continuous logging of up to 10 000 measurement points with up to twenty-six parameters logged per point.  

The Druck PanaFlow XMT1000 Ultrasonic Flow Transmitter is a configurable, cost-effective and complete ultrasonic flow metering system suitable for measuring the flow of liquids in a variety of pipe systems.
