The GE / Panametric Transport® PT900 Portable Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter has been optimised to be as easy-to-use as possible, whilst still retaining the precision, ruggedness and versatility of GE’s previous model, the PT878 (available here).

This product's clamp-on design means that it can be quickly attached to pipes; whilst the included transmitter’s Bluetooth compatibility ensures that it can be easily synchronised with tablets including the PT900 app. This app can be used to program the PT900 Portable Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter; its streamlined, icon interface, tutorial-style programming and extensive online support ensure that users of all experiences are able to program and operate both the app and the GE / Panametric Transport® PT900 Portable Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter easily.

Further to this, the PT900 app's simplicity of operation means that it is quick and easy to program the PT900 Flow Meter; as a result, the flow meter is able to perform measurements almost directly out of the box. This multilingual app is downloadable from the GE website, Google Play (instruction video) and from the included SD card (instruction video). It can be used to set parameters, program data logs and is able to display a multitude of options. The video below offers a quick introduction to the programming and downloading of data logs via the PT900 app.

Further to its clamp-on design, the GE / Panametric Transport® PT900 Portable Ultrasonic Liquid Flow Meter’s compatibility with a number of transducers means that it can be used to measure flow through a variety of different sized, lined or unlined pipes.

GE’s Patented Correlation Transit-Time™ Technique Brief Explanation

(For further information please see GE’s Instruction Document  ‘To Clamp or Not to Clamp’ listed under the Technical Specifications).

Transit-TIme™ technology eliminates the need to infiltrate the pipe under investigation and/or shut down the process.  It provides the user with excellent accuracy whilst removing the possibility of drift or pressure drops.

This mode of measurement requires two transducers. First, each transducer emits a series of acoustic signals; second, each transducer receives the signals emitted by its partner. The time interval between the first transducer emitting the acoustic signals and the second transducer receiving them is measured. This is repeated in the opposite direction.  

If the fluid is stagnant then the two time intervals will be identical as there is no upstream resistance. However; if flow is present then the upstream time interval will be greater than the downstream time interval as the acoustic signals will have encountered resistance from the downward flowing fluid. The subsequent difference between the time intervals/ transit times is proportional to the flow velocity; moreover, the differential value’s sign indicates whether the current is flowing upstream or downstream.
