The T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System is an accurate and adaptable voltage source for relay testing with a 3-f voltage output from a 1-f supply, 0-450V f-N voltage output, 20VA/phase maximum output, ±180.0° phase shift, and a variable frequency between 30 and 999.9Hz. It is ideal for testing G59 and G99 schemes including loss of mains protection. It can also be used for testing and timing protection that requires one to three voltages such as:

  • Under and over frequency relays
  • Under and over voltage relays
  • Synchronising relays
  • df/dt & ROCOF relays
  • Vector surge relays
  • Transducers

Furthermore, when used in conjunction with T&R’s ART3C or 200ADM-P Secondary Current Injection Test Set, the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System is able to test the following protection circuits:

  • Directional relays
  • Distance protection
  • Phase angle relays
  • Power relays
  • Power transducers

Simplicity and accuracy are the defining features of the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System. It includes a new user interface which enables simple testing of complex voltage and loss of mains protection systems, a new full-colour LCD display for providing greater and clearer test detail, and higher output voltages with more precise accuracy and control.

The T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System is able to provide a highly stable and accurate voltage output with very low distortion. The T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System features automatic mains voltage selection and individually adjustable voltage, frequency and phase angle for each of its phase outputs. Values may be entered and altered using the smooth rotary encoder or using the capacitive keypad.

As the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System features a simple user interface within defined menus and dedicated panel buttons for each of the menu options, selecting the required mode of operation is easy. The T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System features four modes of operation.

Output Adjust Mode

This operational mode provides full control of frequency, voltage and phase.

Phase Lock Mode

An external reference such as a voltage, current or the mains supply to the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System can be used to control the frequency and phase of the output. When used in conjunction with an external current source, the Phase Lock mode enables testing of directional and distance protection.

Fault Config Mode

The Fault Config Mode provides flexibility when testing complex timed events or when several sets of values must be applied to a relay in a specified order. If required, this mode also allows the user to change frequency, phase and voltage simultaneously.

Using the Fault Config mode, three sets of values, the pre-fault, fault and post-fault, can be set in advance. The T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System can also be programmed to switch from one state to the next after a specific time or when a change of contact is detected. Furthermore, the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System’s timer can be configured to start or stop when a specific contact change has occurred or when a specified state change has happened.

Test configurations programmed using this mode can be saved to a USB. Alternatively, complex test sequences such as those pertaining to complete G59/ G99 relay tests or relay stability tests can be uploaded from a USB.

df/dt and ROCOF (Rate of Change of Frequency) Mode

Loss of mains protection is often a df/dt relay that is sensitive to the rate of change of frequency over time. This mode is used to generate a swept frequency output with accurate rates of change of frequency between pre-set frequencies.

As mentioned above, it is possible to create bespoke test procedures for step changes of any output variable at set times or with automatic timing of the response of the relay under test. These can be saved to and/or uploaded from a USB. It is also possible to save tests to a USB with comments entered using a USB keyboard. Tests and comments are saved in a CSV file enabling them to be opened on all PCs using a range of spreadsheet software.

Furthermore, to enable customisable test procedures, the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System features a flexible and multi-functional timing system.

All data, including contact set status and the phasor diagram, is displayed on the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System’s large, 6.5”, backlit, colour display. This voltage source for relay testing also includes 4mm safety sockets for A, B, C, and neutral. Neutral connections can be linked using the provide accessory to create a star connection; alternatively, a delta connection can be achieved by omitting the neutral. Finally, the T&R ART3V 3-Phase Voltage & Frequency Relay Test System is supplied in a rugged case and weighs less than 9kg.
