About EV Charging Cables

An EV connector is a cable that connects your car to an electric charging point. With a plug head on either end, one end of the connector pushes into a charging port on your electric car, and the other end plugs into a port on the charging station.

Ensure you get a cable long enough to reach the vehicle from the charger. Especially important with so-called tethered connections, which have a fixed-length cable pre-moulded onto the charging point, meaning it cannot be removed or extended. Untethered connections come with a loose cable giving you more flexibility.

Type 1 plug is a 5-pin design. It has a latch that keeps the plug in place and prevents it from being dislodged from the charger socket. Type 2 models, with a 7-pin design, don't have these latches. Instead, the vehicles that utilise Type 2 plugs have a locking pin that locates and secures the plug.
