The Sauter TN Gold 80 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge for Gold can be used to ascertain whether gold or silver bars and/or coins are composed solely of gold or silver or whether they have a core of a different metal.

This tester utilises ultrasound to measure the thickness of gold/silver bars and coins; it uses the following measurement procedure:

1.)    Using the external sensor ultrasound waves are directed onto the test object

2.)    The ultrasound waves penetrate the object, reaching the surface underneath the test object

3.)    The waves are reflected off the surface underneath the test object

4.)    The external sensor detects the reflected ultrasonic waves

5.)    A thickness measurement is indicated

6.)    This measurement is compared to a reading determined using a calliper gauge

The ultrasonic waves will react differently with cores of a different material thereby giving the user a different measurement. These measurements can be used to determine whether the gold/silver coin or bar contains a false core of tungsten or lead. The Sauter TN Gold 80 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge for Gold is able to measure through the whole coin or bar without interference, thereby guaranteeing a high level of certainty.

Further to this, the Sauter TN Gold 80 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge for Gold contains an integrated base-plate for precise adjustment of the tester, as well as a Zeroing function for resetting the thickness tester, allowing the user to conduct accurate measurements repeatedly.

The Sauter TN Gold 80 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge for Gold can be programmed to display thickness measurements in mm or inches. Data can be saved to the Sauter TN Gold 80 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge’s internal memory. It has the capacity to store up to twenty files, each containing up to one-hundred measurements. Data may be transferred to a PC or printer using the supplied USB data interface.

The software can be used to ascertain whether the gold or silver item contains a false core; Sauter’s SSG Software also compensates for known additions to gold, such as copper or silver, and can be used to determine the value of the test object.
