What Are Kewtech EVSE Testers?

Kewtech's EVSE testers are specialised tools designed for electricians and EV charging point installers. They simulate the presence of an electric vehicle, enabling comprehensive testing of EV charging stations to ensure safety and functionality. These testers are compatible with various Kewtech multifunction testers (MFTs), such as the KT66DL, facilitating a range of diagnostic procedures.

What Do Kewtech EVSE Testers Measure?

The KEWEVSE adapter allows users to perform several critical tests on EV charging points:

  • Loop Impedance Testing: Assessing the impedance of the circuit to ensure proper fault current paths.
  • RCD and RDC-DD Testing: Verifying the operation of residual current devices, including those detecting DC currents.
  • Proximity Pilot (PP) Simulation: Simulating different cable ratings (13A to 63A) to test the charger's response.
  • Control Pilot (CP) State Simulation: Emulating various charging states (A to D) to assess charger behaviour.
  • PE Pre-Test: Checking the integrity of the protective earth connection before commencing tests.
  • Error Simulation: Introducing CP and PE errors to evaluate the charger's fault detection capabilities.

How Do Kewtech EVSE Testers Work?

The KEWEVSE connects to the EV charging point via a Type 2 male connector. It interfaces with a multifunction tester through standard 4mm connectors or a BS1363 socket. By simulating the presence of an EV, the adapter enables the tester to perform various measurements and checks, ensuring the charging station operates safely and effectively.

Applications of Kewtech EVSE Testers

Kewtech's EVSE testers are employed in various scenarios:

  • Installation Commissioning: Verifying new EV charging points meet safety and operational standards.
  • Routine Maintenance: Conducting periodic checks to ensure ongoing compliance and functionality.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing issues within existing EV charging installations.
  • Compliance Testing: Ensuring installations adhere to relevant regulations and standards.

By incorporating these testers into their toolkit, professionals can confidently assess and certify the safety of EV charging stations.
