The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is a useful diagnostic, inspection and maintenance tool; it can be used to aid engineers and technicians with making critical power quality and energy decisions in real-time.

The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is the most sophisticated model in Fluke’s series of 174X Three-Phase Power Quality Loggers and differs from its sister product, the Fluke 1748/EUS Three-Phase Power Quality Logger, in that it is suitable for use in Australia, China and Brazil as well as Europe, the UK and the US.

The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is available in three kits that vary in regards to their included flexible current probes:

  • FLUKE 1748/B/INTL - Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger WITHOUT Probes
  • FLUKE 1748/15/INTL - Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger with 1500A iFlex Probes

Measurement Functions

This diagnostic, maintenance and inspection tool is suitable for carrying out quality-of-service surveys, quantifying energy usage, and troubleshooting power distribution systems. To this end, it is able to monitor and log up to five-hundred power parameters simultaneously, including the following:

  • Harmonics for voltage and current
  • Interharmonics for voltage and current
  • Unbalance
  • Flicker
  • Rapid voltage changes

When used with three-phase and neutral voltage test leads and up to four current probes, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger can also be used to measure all three voltage and current phases as well as neutral current. Moreover; the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger’s ability to record event waveforms and determine RMS event profiles, detailing the date, time and relevant severity information, makes this unit particularly well suited to identifying the root causes of power quality issues.

As a result of the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger’s ability to log over five-hundred power parameters and capture events simultaneously, it can be used to assess power quality in accordance with EN 50160 and IEEE 519 standards. The versatility, accuracy and IEC 61000-4-30 Class A Edition 3-compliance of the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger ensures that its precision is maintained regardless as to which part of the power system it is testing; this instrument can be used to perform tests at service entrances, substations or at the load.

Ergonomic, Rugged Design

System Interface

Also working to ensure the accuracy and reliability of results is the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger’s intelligent verification feature which will alert the user via an amber light (visible through the power button) when test leads, clamps and/or probes are not connected correctly; when connections are correct, the amber light will change to green. If the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger identifies an incorrect connection it will alter it digitally without the user having to remove connected test leads or clamps.

Further to this, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger automatically detects, scales and powers connected clamps and/ or probes thereby ensuring that the instruments can be depended upon to acquire accurate, reliable and relevant data. Up to four current probes can be connected separately, allowing the user to tailor the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger to the application and ensuring maximum flexibility.

Finally, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is equipped with a quick, guided and graphical PC-application setup that enables the user to configure the instrument so that it is able to gather the relevant data correctly, accurately and reliably.

Accessories

As mentioned above, up to four flexible current probes (NOT supplied in the Fluke 1748/B/INTL kit) can be connected to the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger. These thin, IP65, flexible probes can be used to inspect most installations and allow the user to access tight spaces and difficult-to-reach conductors and systems. Their wide ranges (probe dependent) ensure high accuracy for each application.

Additionally, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is supplied with 2m test leads allowing the user to access difficult-to-reach conductors.

Physical Design

Like the aforementioned probes, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is IP65-compliant (when used with an IP65 voltage input adapter); all of the instrument’s ports, including its AUX, I/O, USB and Ethernet ports, are IP65 rated ensuring that they are unaffected by dust and water ingress when not in use.

Additionally, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is safety rated to 600V CAT IV/ 1000V CAT III: the highest safety rating in the industry. This expands the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger’s scope-for-use and makes it suitable for applications at service entrances and downstream.

The rugged, safety-optimised construction of the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger protects it from physical damage when in the field, whilst its ability to be secured using a standard chain or another security instrument protects the unit from theft.

Using the supplied magnetic hanger, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger can be stored securely inside or outside the panel. Its small size also makes it suitable for applications in tight spaces; it has the following dimensions: 23cm x 18cm x 5.4cm.

The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is also supplied with a lithium-ion battery capable of powering the instrument for four hours per charge; it is able to withstand temporary power disruptions.

Alternatively, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger can be powered using a wall line cord or is able to derive a power source from the circuit-under-test, thereby improving its practicality as the user does not need to rely on the instrument's battery life or a mains supply in order to conduct relevant tests over prolonged periods. The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger features a wide power range and will go from 100V to 500V automatically.

Memory and Data Download

As mentioned above, the Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is equipped with a number of ports that can facilitate the transfer of recorded data. Results can be sent to a PC via a USB interface, an Ethernet connection or via Wi-Fi; the transfer of data via Wi-Fi allows the user to view measurements remotely outside of dangerous environments and in real-time, enabling real-time analysis and decision-making whilst reducing the need for expensive PPE.

Further to this, data can be logged directly to a USB drive. The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger features two USB ports allowing it to be connected to a PC and USB drive at the same time.

The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger’s internal memory is able to store in excess of twenty data-logging sessions. This inspection and diagnostics tool will automatically log a variety of power quality and power variables thereby ensuring that measurement trends are always complete.

Analysis and Reporting

The Fluke 1748/INTL Three-Phase Power Quality Logger is supplied with Fluke’s Energy Analyse Plus Software which can be used to analyse data and create relevant reports; it can also be used to view data remotely when it is transferred to a PC via a wired or wireless connection.

When data is downloaded to the user’s PC, and subsequently the Fluke Energy Analyse Plus Software, the program will automatically calculate the limits of the current harmonics using the installation parameters and thereby predict grid overload in accordance with a variety of international standards. Using this data, the engineer/ technician can monitor harmonics before distortion appears in the voltage enabling him/her to increase the system’s uptime by preventing unexpected failures and non-compliance situations.  

Data imported to Fluke’s Energy Analyse Plus Software may be exported in PQDIF and NeQual formats for use with third-party software. The operator is also to select a particular parameter to create a customised view of logged measurements for advanced data correlation. He/she can view hour/hour, day/day and week/week comparisons. Using this software the engineer or technician is able to analyse every detail of the energy consumption and power quality state-of-health.

Finally, at the touch of a button, the user is able to create EN 50160, IEEE 519, GOST 33073 reports. The templates of these reports can be altered as necessary in order to accommodate evolving standards.
