The T & R MCAT+ Micro Cross Arm Tester evaluates the integrity of wooden pole installations on 11 kV networks. It detects insulation faults and prospective short-circuit current (ISC), confirming that both single- and three-phase overhead lines are safe before being energised.
The MCAT+ works with the WPC1000TX wireless transmitter to compare phase angles between live conductors and cross arms. The device halts operations if voltages exceed 2.7 kV. It has a voltage measurement accuracy of ±1% up to 11 kV and ±5% beyond that. The MCAT+ also has a high-contrast 240 × 64 graphical LCD, a clear LED, and an audible pass/fail system that classifies ISC levels into 'safe,' 'caution,' or 'unsafe' bands.
The MCAT+ performs in harsh outdoor conditions, from freezing mornings at -25°C to scorching afternoons at 55°C. Powered by standard C-cell and PP3 batteries, with a rotary encoder and a push-button interface. The tester complies with IEC 61481-1 and BS EN 61243-2 standards.
