The Megger MFT-X0 Multifunction Tester is an installation tester built for domestic and small-scale commercial electricians. Built on the MFT-X1 platform, it covers the essential single and three-phase installation tests, from new installations to periodic inspection, and sends results to CertSuite™ to cut the time spent on paperwork.
It carries Megger's True Loop™ non-trip loop testing with the Confidence Meter™, a stabilised insulation test voltage from 100V to 1000V, Type AC, A and B RCD testing with a configurable Auto sequence, and Bluetooth® result transfer to CertSuite™ Installation.
It ships in a hard base carry case with red, blue and green test leads, probes, clips and grabbers, a UK socket adaptor and an AA battery module with batteries, ready to test from the box.
Electrical noise makes non-trip loop readings wander and tests get repeated. True Loop™ on the MFT-X0 gives stable 2-wire and 3-wire non-trip loop readings on noisy supplies and close to the source, with the Confidence Meter™ showing when the result has settled.
With a neutral, the 3-wire test uses a 15mA test current on circuits protected by a 30mA or higher RCD and shows L-PE, L-N and N-PE together. Without one, the 2-wire non-trip test measures L-PE, and a 2-wire high current test covers non-RCD circuits, three-phase included.
Each result shows its PFC or PSCC, and Zmax holds the highest of a run of tests, so on a ring final you read one figure at the end.
The MFT-X0 tests insulation at 100V, 250V, 500V and 1000V, with the output stabilised to -0% +2% +2V at rated load or less. The selected voltage is shown next to the actual test voltage and the leakage current, with an analogue arc tracking the reading.
If the leads are connected to a live circuit, the test is inhibited, a warning sounds and the voltage widget shows where the live connection is. The live voltage limit defaults to 30V and can be set to 50V or 75V.
The MFT-X0 tests Type AC, A and B RCDs, including selective (S) types and three-phase devices, at rated currents from 10mA to 1000mA (Type B up to 500mA). Fault (touch) voltage is measured alongside trip time and trip current.
The Auto sequence runs ½×, 1×, 2× and 5× IΔn and a ramp test at 0° and 180°, Any test can be removed, or 0° or 180° switched off, to leave only the tests the circuit needs. Selective types get a 30-second countdown before the trip tests, so the device's built-in delay has cleared first.
Continuity is tested at 200mA or 10mA, with a fast buzzer adjustable from 0.3Ω to 200Ω. Bi-directional mode runs forward and reversed test currents automatically and shows both results.
Voltage is measured as TRMS, AC or DC, phase sequence is checked automatically on a three-phase supply, and the voltage widget shows L-N, L-E and N-E continuously in every test mode except voltage and current. Active live voltage protection to 600V means an accidental live connection does not blow a fuse.
The bonded colour TFT display sits behind scratch-proof hardened glass, with a high-contrast black-on-white mode for bright sunlight. The colour-coded dial is mirrored on screen, hot keys for second-level functions run across the top, and the second control dial selects any highlighted option, including when wearing gloves. On-screen graphical help shows the lead connections for each test.
The operating system is user-upgradeable: copy the latest file from the Megger website to a microSD card, insert it and press TEST, and the update runs automatically.
Results are time and date stamped, tagged with circuit data and sent over Bluetooth® low energy to Megger CertSuite™ Installation on an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet, then synchronised with the cloud.
A free one-month CertSuite™ trial is included with the MFT-X0. After that, CertSuite™ Installation runs on a monthly or yearly subscription, available as a Megger CertSuite™ 12-month subscription card, with support for multiple concurrent users. Results can be reviewed on site, or from the office by users with the relevant permissions.
The MFT-X0 is powered by an AA alkaline battery module as standard, taking eight LR6 cells. The optional Megger 4400mAh Li-ion rechargeable pack changes without tools, and the instrument detects which battery type is fitted.
The MFT-X0 is built for testing low voltage installations in domestic and commercial premises, on single and three-phase systems. Its IP54 housing is protected against dust and water splashes for indoor and outdoor use, and it is rated CAT III 600V / CAT IV 300V with approved Megger test leads.
Its range of tests also covers:
The MFT-X0 is built on the MFT-X1 platform and shares its core: True Loop™, the Confidence Meter™, stabilised insulation, Type B RCD testing, the configurable Auto sequence and Bluetooth® transfer to CertSuite™. For everyday installation testing and periodic inspection, the measurements are the same.
The Megger MFT-X1 Multifunction Tester adds the specialist functions: EV charge point testing, earth electrode testing, 50V and variable insulation, high-resolution loop, R1+R2 and volt drop from a stored Zref, and leakage current with an MCC1010 clamp. It is also supplied with a Li-ion battery and charger, an SP5 switched probe and an SIA10 socket test lead. If charge points or earth electrodes are regular work, choose the MFT-X1; for general installation testing, the MFT-X0 covers it.

All four share the core of a Megger installation tester: 2-wire and 3-wire non-trip loop testing, Auto RCD testing with a ramp test, insulation testing to 1000V, and a CAT IV 300V / CAT III 600V, IP54 rating. They differ in reach. The MFT1711 is single-phase and suits domestic work; the MFT1721 adds three-phase, Type B RCD and 100V insulation testing; the MFT-X0 adds Bluetooth® transfer to CertSuite™; and the MFT-X1 adds EV charge point and earth electrode testing.
The MFT-X0 tests Type B RCDs, including the selective B(S) type, so Type B protected circuits are covered.
The dedicated EV modes are not on the MFT-X0: RDC EV loop testing, RDC (Type EV) trip testing and the EVX100 charger interface are MFT-X1 functions. For regular charge point installation and testing, the MFT-X1 is the instrument to choose.
Yes, for domestic PV installations. Megger lists domestic PV testing among the MFT-X0's applications, and it carries out the installation tests on the AC side of the system: loop impedance, RCD, continuity and insulation resistance up to 1000V.
It does not have dedicated PV array functions such as open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current or I-V curve testing, so DC commissioning of the array itself calls for a dedicated PV tester. CertSuite™ Installation includes PV certificates for recording the results.
The 3-wire RCD loop test uses a 15mA test current and is designed for circuits protected by an RCD rated 30mA or more. It needs a neutral connection and an L-N loop resistance below 12Ω; where there is no neutral, the 2-wire non-trip test is used instead.
Megger notes that an RCD may still trip if the circuit already carries high leakage current, and that a very small risk of tripping always remains. On circuits where that is unacceptable, consider an alternative method of measuring loop impedance.
The MFT-X0 is powered by an AA alkaline battery module as standard, and the Megger 4400mAh Li-ion rechargeable battery pack is available as an optional accessory. The pack is charged with the Megger Li-ion battery charger, also available separately, in 2.5 to 3 hours depending on ambient temperature.
The instrument detects which battery type is fitted automatically. Lithium-ion or lithium polymer cells made in an AA format must not be used in the AA module, as Megger warns they can damage the instrument.
Download the latest operating system file (.BIN) from the Megger website to a microSD card, insert the card and press TEST. The update then runs automatically.
The installed version is shown under Settings, INST, GUI version, so you can confirm the file on the card is newer before you start.
Yes, once auto start is switched on in Settings. Press TEST to prime the test before connecting the leads, and it starts as soon as the instrument detects the live circuit.
Auto start is set separately for loop and RCD testing. With it off, connect the leads first and press TEST to start each test.
