Megger’s BITE3 is a comprehensive battery testing device that can be used to test batteries without the need to actually remove them from the system they are inside.
The device can be used to accurately determine the overall health of lead-acid cell batteries up to 2000Ah and takes measurements of cell impedance, carries out ohmic testing, cell voltage testing, intercell connection resistance and overall limits of ripple current. In addition to measuring standard ripple current this is the first battery tester available on the market that also measures the float current and harmonic content of the detected ripple current and a spectrum analyser is also included to evaluate harmonic content.
The device is fully suitable for use in measuring cell and string parameters without the need to take the system offline and displays comprehensive reports on battery status. These reports include numerical representation of testing results, an impedance deviation graph which groups weaker cells together automatically in order to speed up analysis. The device also includes built-in storage for reviewing and recalling test data and also allows the user to send data to PC.
This battery testing unit works by using the devices’ lead set to measure voltage drops at the cell terminals. This allows the unit to evaluate the voltage drop of the AC current signal applied to the instrument when it is switched on.
The Megger BITE3 also ships with a software package known as Power DB. This comprehensive software management suite allows users to easily organise and analyse recorded battery testing data and includes extensive functions such as trending plotting, display of parameters and red, green and yellow bands for easy comparison between cells and failure limits.
