The TestSafe TS-RF-WINE01 Portable Wine Refractometer can be used to measure the sugar content of grape must in order to ascertain the percentage of alcohol expected to be produced during fermentation.

To this end, it features three refractometer scales:

  • Brix: 0-32%
  • Oeschle: 0-140°Oe
  • Babo: 0-27KMW

Each of the above scales facilitates the user’s ability to measure slightly different entities. The Brix scale determines the sugar content of a solution; whereas the Oeschle scale can be used determine the density of grape must, and the Babo scale facilitates the user’s ability to ascertain the exact sugar content of the grape must. All these measurements enable the user to identify the precise ripeness of the fruit and thereby gauge the projected yield of alcohol.  

This instrument includes an automatic temperature compensation (ATC) function, ensuring that tests are carried out accurately. Furthermore, the testing method of the TestSafe TS-RF-WINE01 Portable Wine Refractometer is simple:

1.)    Place two to three drops of the liquid to be tested on the sample plate

2.)    Hold the refractometer to a natural light source

3.)    Look through the eyepiece to view the scale

4.)    If necessary, convert measurements
