We all know there are tradesmen out there who aren’t as nice as the rest of us. Some are scam artists, some do inferior work and some don’t really take pride in what they do. Thankfully, steps are being taken to remove these cowboys from circulation.

TrustMark, which specialises in listing industry-accredited professionals who are considered trustworthy, recently released a number of figures about the steps being taken to eradicate the problem. The readings show that this year tradesmen’s details have been viewed more than 2 million times within the first half of 2012, an increase of 24% from last year, with 357,482 viewings carried out in July (an increase of 26% since 2011) – the record figure achieved for 2012.

Stuart Carter, Head of PR & Marketing, TrustMark said: “With the economy in its current state, many people do not have the money to either move home or even completely overhaul their current house, so they are tending to do more low cost home improvement’s to update their properties, such as electrical work. Many of us still require a professional tradesman to do the work so we want to advise consumers to be extra vigilant and only use reputable and legitimate tradesmen. We are here to signpost consumers to good quality and trustworthy firms and to help homeowners select a local tradesman with confidence.”

Any tradesmen listed on TrustMark are industry-accredited, and adhere to the standards of TrustMark, which are actually endorsed by the British government themselves. For both potential customers and for tradesmen, it’s a portal designed to help people promote, give confidence and find a fully certified professional working in their area.
