  5. Should I Calibrate My Gas Tester, Or is Regular Bump Testing Enough?

    Ensuring that every piece of test equipment you own is performing correctly can be more vital then owning the testers themselves. Any equipment that gives incorrect readings will lead to incorrect diagnostics of the work required and could potentially lead to a major incident. A common test many people use to ensure that their instruments are operating correctly is the “bump” test. A bump test is typically carried out before every test and involves briefly exposing the tester to gas. This brief exposure should be detected by the tester and it should react accordingly.   6. A Call To Report Illegal Gas Work

    With recent rulings outlining that all engineers working on central heating boilers or space heaters must own a CPA1 qualification, it’s extremely important for the industry to let the Gas Safe Register (GSR) know of any illegal work being carried out. The new rulings on CPA1 (Combustion Performance Analysis) officially came into effect on 1st April 2012, meaning that anyone who hasn’t taken the exam and gained a CPA1 qualification is now currently unqualified to be carrying out installation work.
