Underneath this text is smaller, dark grey text reading "11th - 17th September 2023". Beneath this are the cartoon gas safety superheroes. The ongoing cost of living crisis has understandably prevented many people from undertaking essential home maintenance work. To reduce spending, homeowners leave simple safety checks or repair jobs unaddressed. Far from saving households money, avoiding necessary upkeep is estimated to cost the average home £1885 a year, contributing to an overall additional expenditure of £6.8bn across households in the UK. One task that property owners often procrastinate is having their gas boiler safety checked by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Still, with autumn and winter fast approaching, not having your boiler safety checked could prove more expensive than having it done.[1] Continue reading →

Compressed air systems are integral to a vast array of manufacturing industries, including paper. Often in continuous use, compressed air systems are a significant drain on energy resources and contribute notably to overhead bills. The ongoing energy crisis means it has never been more important to ensure compressed air systems are leak-free and operating efficiently. This is especially pertinent for paper and pulp mills that rely on compressed air systems at every stage of the manufacturing process. Thankfully, sonic cameras, such as Teledyne FLIR’s Si124 Acoustic Imager, offer an easy, efficient, effective method of pinpointing leaks before they become too damaging and too costly.[1] Continue reading →
  9. Thermal Imaging Technology Used to Tackle Wildfires

Big, white text on a black background reads "Thermal Imagers Used to Tackle". Immediately beneath this even larger block capitals read "Wildfires". A wildfire blazes in through the letters. Sadly, news reports detailing the devastating effects of extreme weather are becoming more frequent. This year is no different. So far in 2023, Europe has experienced severe flooding in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region, followed by intense heat across the Mediterranean. Predictably, extreme heat turned into devastating wildfires which led to evacuation missions across Greece, Portugal, and Italy (to name just a few countries). With experts assuring us that extreme weather will become more frequent due to climate change[1], finding methods to address or prevent its consequences, such as forest fires, is critical. For years, domestic fires have been tackled using thermal imaging technology; now, thermal cameras are preventing and stopping wildfires. Continue reading →
